Up, up and away...

Sunday 6th April

An early start to the day as we needed to be at the airfield by 7.30 – only 20 minutes down the road but we were there plenty early enough. No sign of life at the airfield until just after 7.30 – Spanish time, we forgot. It was pretty cold as we stood around waiting – I had several layers of clothes on.

The flight included breakfast we were told – coffee and muffins supplied at the beginning of the day. Not much of a breakfast we thought but we weren’t there for the food.

Getting set up

I had no idea just what was involved in getting a balloon set up and in the sky – it was quite a lengthy process and it took a good hour to get ready. There were 3 balloons taking off this morning.

The sun rose as we were getting ready and it started to warm up – just a little. A perfect day for it with clear blue sky and no wind. Finally we had lift-off. We hadn’t been up in a balloon before and it was so quiet and gentle. As we rose higher the views of the surrounding mountains and countryside were just breathtaking.

The little village where we are staying -
the hotel is near the church(just to right of centre)

The flight was around 1 ½ hours and we landed in a farmers paddock, not far from our hotel. We had to trek around his cropped paddocks to get the balloon back on the trailer. Champagne supplied at the end of the flight – and then they said we were going back to the airfield for breakfast. It was now 12.00. The breakfast (lunch) was great and came with a bottle of cab-sav as well.

Not the best photo - but the backdrop was pretty amazing

Back on land - packing up

That was pretty much our day. A rest when we got back to the hotel and then a little bit of planning for the next part of our trip after we leave here. Tomorrow we will go for a short drive and then Tuesday we plan on going to Barcelona which is about 1 hr 45 through the tunnel and the motorway.
