Quiet camera day

Wednesday 3rd July

Time to move on back into Kenya and onto the Masai Mara.

Some of the sculptures at the lodge.

It was a long 4 hour drive to the border (thankfully bitumen roads) and not a lot to photograph. Lunch was a packed lunch which we ate in the car as we drove. We met our Kenyan guide, Antony, at the border and transferred all our gear from one car to the next. At the  changeover our Tanzanian guide picked up a car full of Aussies and English doing the same tour in reverse. Goodbye to Ali.

We were all feeling pretty tired after travelling all day but worse was yet to come. Kenya had some serious rain and flooding only a couple of months ago and the roads were seriously damaged. It was a very slow and rough road to our final destination - our guide Antony is very careful and patient and did his best to minimise the roughness. At one point it was a case of not really a road, but rather bounce from one hole to the next and one rock to the next.

After a very long day travelling we were finally at our safari camp for the next 2 nights - Pride Inn. This camp is on the banks of the Talek river with the Masai Mara park directly on the other side. The camp was almost wiped out by the recent floods but they've done an amazing job of rebuilding. Lovely comfortable tents (though the tent zips could do with some lubrication) - no walking around at night.

A few sights along the road.

Have a look at the loading on this motor bike.
Lightly loaded compared to some we have seen.

A local bus - no idea if they all fitted.
Some of the people were roadside vendors
trying to sell mostly fruit and drinks.

Bridge over the Mara River. (Not where the wildebeest cross).

Open plains.
