Hours of African massage

Saturday 29th June

A very long day starting with a stop at an ATM (which worked – how many Tanzanian shillings did I need? I got 300,000 which is actually only about AUD$170), then continued on to Ngorongoro Park and the huge crater. It was freezing cold as we headed up to the rim of the crater, and covered in fog and low cloud. Eventually we got a view down into the crater and it is huge.

We spent the morning doing a game drive through the crater. One of our first sightings was 3 lions with a kill. Bit of argy bargy there with everyone wanting to get a good look. Flamingos, elephants,  jackals,  hyenas,  giraffe and huge herds of wildebeest and zebras who seem to live and travel together in harmony.

First animal sighted in Ngorongoro Park -
one of the big five, Cape Buffalo.

Lion print.

These Thompson's gazelles are beautiful.

Need I say - lion.

More lions.

And a big boy.

Jackal

Pool of hippos not far from our camp in the Serengeti.

More lions.

Our home for 3 nights in the centre of the Serengeti.

Lunch at the crater before a long, dusty, rough and hot 3 hour drive to our tented safari camp in the middle of the Serengeti. The road is the main road from somewhere to somewhere with trucks and buses as well as all the tourist land cruisers. Some animal sightings along the way – mostly giraffe – but after 3 bumpy dusty hours I think we were all just keen to get there and have a shower.

We are in another lovely tented camp for 3 nights. Solar powered, but has hot water, ability to charge phones, batteries, cameras, wifi (ok enough for messaging but not great for loading photos), and the food is great.
