Walk a mile in my shoes

I reckon I've walked miles today - more than I've walked since the last time we were in Paris. And more up and down steps than I care to count.

Our first objective for the day was to find a small breakfast Cafe. After a short metro ride we were in the Latin quarter and there was a Cafe just like we were searching for. Ham and  cheese croissant and coffee for breakfast.

Breakfast - not the best photo. Beanies and coats - it was pretty cold this morning.

And this is what we  could have had.

This cafe was at the bottom of Rue Mouffetard in the Latin quarter which is a food lovers walk. Lots of small market type shops and plenty to browse. Boy are meat prices expensive here. Beef roast was 79.90 euro kg which is around $120 kg. The shops extend on to the street with beautifully presented wares.

Sometimes it pays to look up.

We were here early and it was very quiet in the street. We didn't buy anything but it was great to look.

Next up a long walk to visit the Arenes de Lutece which was a 2nd century Roman amphitheatre unearthed in 1869. Then a visit to the Pantheon.

Next stop lunch. We headed towards the Sorbonne area where we had eaten in past visits to Paris. We were not disappointed and found a place where we had soup, boeuf bourguingon (sp), creme caramel and chocolate mousse - all to a French song soundtrack including House of the Rising Sun in French.

We have certainly noticed that the tourists seem to be back. Long queues at a few of the tourist spots we have been to before. We also love how students here get live history lessons - lots of groups at the Pantheon.

And our final entertainment for the day was a fender bender near the law courts. Just how many police and police vehicles does one need at a small accident -  no injuries we could see but I guess the fact that there was a prison vehicle involved made it a major event - or maybe a slow day in the office so they were all up for some activity. Rob noticed the police doing a drug test on the driver - they had the instruction manual out, and one of the 20 police knew how to do point duty. They were like council workers - one on the shovel and the rest supervising.

Hmm. Creme caramel or chocolate mousse? Both delicious.

Notre Dame under repair.

At least 20 police and 10 vehicles.

Please forgive any spelling mistakes and formatting  - it will get better once I get back in the swing of things.
