Wednesday 19th april
Our day started with a fail. We headed for the Gobelin tapestry factory in the hope of doing a tour. Gobelin have been the major tapestry producers (including tapestries for the home crafter) for hundreds of years. If you see a tapestry in a building in France there is a fair chance it is Gobelins. I struggled to find information about tours online and when we got to the location only 1k or so from our hotel, no, there are no tours. Bummer!
This quivering puppy boarded our train. |
On to our next stop - kulcha time at the Musee d'Orsay. Rob was keen to see the Manet and Degas exhibition. I didn't enjoy the experience at all - too crowded, too hard to see anything, read the information, move around, and I'm not so keen on either of the artists. I was quite happy to get away from the exhibition and see the Renoir, Monet, Van Gogh, Sisely and a couple of others on the 5th floor - much fewer people.

Where to next Odette? |
Just a few samples. |
After the museum we decided to visit another "foodie" Street. The plan was to use the metro but while we were fluffing about we saw a bus go past headed to where we wanted to go. Changed our mind and went by bus. A different experience because we got to see a few more areas of Paris. I think this bus passed through the "toorak" of Paris. More upmarket shops, apartments and offices than the area where we are staying.
Dog of the day 2 - enjoying some Paris sun. It was actually a beautiful day today. We left coats and beanies at home. |
Foodie Street. Wish we had cooking facilities in our room as we could have brought home plenty of food for dinner. Instead we just had to look, buy a cake to bring home for supper, and have a coffee while we watched the passing parade.
The fruit and veg display makes everything very appealing. |
and the cheeses - yum, yum. |
And a wine to go with the cheese. |
Back to base - today must be pay day for many - there were so many beggars in the metro station
The area we are staying in is quite OK - think inner western suburbs of Melbourne. Over the road is a big shopping centre a la highpoint. We had a very brief wander through there but nothing appealed to us - it seemed to be almost deserted. I've probably mentioned before about public toilets in Paris - the shopping centre had one set of public toilets, and they weren't open early this morning when we were looking for them. So, in Paris, use toilet opportunities as they arise.
The foodie street looks very enticing!
ReplyDeleteGlad to see Odette adding her two bobs worth!
