Wednesday 14th May
Today was our last day of relaxing in Bains les Bains so after doing the washing and a few groceries we went out for a lovely lunch in the next village. These 2 villages are along the Vosges canal - canal boating looks very appealing but we are not sure of the practicalities/organisation. We might investigate further for another trip. Lunch was probably one of our nicest menu du jour this trip. We weren't sure what tranche campagnarde was but turned out to be a slice of baguette spread with cheese and topped with potato, bacon and a gravy. Was quite nice but far too much for an entree.

It's Wednesday - the pork ribs were great, and the creme brulee - yum! |
Following lunch we visited the musee de la broderie (embroidery museum) in the village. Some beautiful work but not sure how old some of it was. A secondary exhibition was about the Manufacture Royale that we visited on Sunday. It talked about the making of nails and then branching out to table cutlery. Seems that this area was the centre for cutlery in the early to mid 1800s.
Can you imagine? |
Beautiful piece of work - 1800s. |

I can't see any of our babies in these - they're not going to catch much dribble, and imagine the mashed pumpkin! |

Beautiful christening gown - the embroidery was so fine. |

And another sampler. |
We are both still over full from lunch so dinner might just be a cup of soup. We are moving on tomorrow to north of Strasbourg. We hope to visit one of the beautiful villages on the way, and maybe a quick winery visit.
