Living the village life

Friday 9th May

For the next week we are staying in the thermal bath village of Bains les Bains. We are in a lovely new apartment, we may even be the first guests. The apartment is an an old building (the one over the road is dated 1716) and I'm guessing ours is about the same. It is fully renovated inside though and gives little hint to the outside wrapping (and the outside gives no hint to the inside either).

Today we have had a quiet day, Rob walked just around the corner for a fresh baguette for breakfaat. Off to the tourist information office where we picked up a few brochures for nearby places to visit. It was market day in town so we bought some fruit and ham for lunch.

Queued up at the market for ham.
The french are very good at queuing.

A fixer upper hotel in the village.

The house over the road.

And this is ours - a work in progress.

And the one next door - another work in progress.

Next stop the supermarket to do the washing - we picked a busy time and I quickened my pace to get to the machine before the guy I saw coming from his motor home. People are allowed to camp in supermarket car parks with their motor homes - maybe this is where they camp when they need to do the washing.

Tomorrow we plan to explore further afield.

  1. Those wonderful markets would have. Loved to bring more tantalising titbits back but I’m sure I would have made it onto Border force show !! Singapore customs scrutinised my tins of pate’ very closely , thought the guard was going to pocket them. Aussie quarantine didn’t even check my bag all I got was a ‘ You’re right mate’ made me chuckle
