Another day of relaxing. I was reading the May program brochure from the tourist information office when I came across this - Every Tuesday, Patchwork from 2.30pm. I've brought a small sewing project with me so I checked the location and details with the tourist office, and this was my plan for the afternoon.
First we headed to the village down the canal about 5k for moning coffee and to book in for lunch tomorrow. They have a set menu, at a good price, which is different each week day. We enjoyed our coffee on the outdoor deck with just lukewarm sun, and watching the fish in the creek. We had time to fill so we headed to the next village, Vauvillers, where there is an old Chateau, XVIII century. No longer open for tourists so it was just a wander around the courtyards.
The entrance to the Chateau. Have a look at the 'straight' lines. |
One arm of the Chateau - now the town hall offices. |
Looking in to the courtyard. |
The other wing of the Chateau which we think contained the stables and other working areas. |
Spotted this on our drive which we thought was a little chapel but is actually a mausoleum to the resistance fighters from the area. Shot, deported and FFI (French interior force personnel) |
A simple lunch of baguette and ham and cheese, then off to the patchwork group. Only 6 ladies there and only one spoke English, but they made me very welcome. I picked a good day to visit - there was rhubarb cake. I was able to follow some parts of their conversation, but they generally spoke too fast for me to try and translate it in my head before they moved on. Seemed like they were all relative beginners - for the patchworkers reading this, they were cutting long strips of fabric for sashings by drawing lines then cutting with scissors.
Rob filled the afternoon with some reading, researching where to next, and watching a bit of TV.
Interesting that they didn’t use rulers and rotary cutters
ReplyDeleteHow great that you were welcomed into this little group of patch workers plus the bonus of rhubarb cake 🥰
