Rolling on towards Paris

Sunday 4th May

Firstly, a little bit more about 3rd May. Rob decided to go out for a walk before dinner - the cathedral is not far away. He'll be home 7 at the latest. By 7.15 I was concerned because I knew he had gone out without the address of where we are staying, and without my phone number. Thoughts ran through my head about just how we could track him down, but fortunately the key was in the lock before I needed to take any further action. Yes, he had got lost. Came out a different door to the one he went in at the cathedral, then went the wrong way. He did this once before in Harrods in London. A few lessons here - retrace your steps, take the phone number, take the address, and some cash. Thankfully, all's well that ends well.

There is an area in Amiens that is referred to as Little Venice.
This is where Rob walked - canals, beautiful houses over the water,
lane ways with little nooks and shops.

On to Sunday.....

Time to start winding our way back to Paris. Relatively short trip in the car today, heading from Amiens to a town called Gaillon, which is west of Paris and within spitting distance of the Seine. This leaves us well placed to visit Monets Garden at Giverny in the morning.

Took a little detour through the village of Gerberoy - we've been here before we both said, but couldn't remember which trip. (Just looked it up - was in 2023). It's a beautiful village. We just drove very slowly through it and enjoyed its beauty. Quite a few other tourists just wandering the streets. We decided not to stop here for coffee as there was no parking in the village and a bit of a downhill/uphill walk.

Moved on to the larger town of Gournay en Bray where we spotted an Intermarche supermarket with lavarie in the car park. So we sat and had coffee and cake while we watched our laundry go round and round. Thank goodness this lavarie was better than the last one and all the washing dried.

Lavarie in the supermarket carpark.
Can you picture these at bunnings?

Next stop, another of France's beautiful villages Lyons la Foret, which we also visited in 2023. Lots of people in town dining out, but very expensive offerings, so we had ho hum lunch from the bakery. Sunday morning market was happening so we've bought prawns for entree, and roast pork and scalloped potatoes for main course - and my leftover birthday cake for dessert.

Now we are in our apartment in the town of Gaillon - very nice apartment with 2 bedrooms and 2 double beds. A nice treat for our almost last stay as a group of 3.

Love the timbered houses. Still standing after umpty dozen years.
Though there was a house just down the road that was held up with
some serious timber supports - should have got a photo.
