Steamy in Singapore

Sunday 15th May 2016

Day one of our holiday – or day 2 if you want to count the travel day.

The flight over was uneventful and we arrived on time in Singapore. Airport shuttle to our hotel was easy. First stop was to change some money where we asked about somewhere good to eat local food. Lau Pat Sat – is an evening food market. Satay was the go and it was very nice.

Lau Pat Sat - very quiet in the day time but after 7....
This morning we woke up to clear blue sky – yesterday when we arrived it was overcast and very humid. I think afternoon storms are the norm here as the sky clouded over as the day went on and late this afternoon we had showers again. Our usual activity in a big city is to use the hop on hop off buses to get the lay of the land and get a bit of dialogue about what we are seeing. Rob was in charge of the map reading as we left the hotel this morning – we turned the wrong way out of the hotel looking for the visitor centre. Fortunately we did find the bus station where we could catch the buses so all ended up OK. But we know who will be in charge of the maps from here on.

I think these were carpets for sale - just spotted them from the bus.
Washing day

Singapore is certainly very clean and lots of modern buildings. A lot of white. I think the leaves are too scared to fall from the trees and dirty the grounds. If you like shopping then you will be spoiled for choice. We haven’t bothered with any shopping as there really is nothing we want to buy, and we don’t want to carry any more luggage all over Europe with us.

The Marina Bay Sands hotel - with the infinity pool on top. One day we might stay here - tattslotto willing.
One of the beautiful white buildings - Fullarton Hotel.

Marriott Hotel

Rows of shop houses in the Chinese quarter.

Now it is time to eat again and try some more of the yummy food. Rob is still craving the chilli crab which is the specialty of Singapore. Let’s hope it is a little cooler now the sun has gone down.

We are here tomorrow and fly out late tomorrow night for Paris.

  1. Enjoyed your first holiday blog post. Singapore is an amazing city, enjoy your last day there before hitting the roads of France.

  2. Sadly missed the laser light cruise ax we didn't find the info about it until we went on the river cruise today. Saving something for next time. Took the bus out to Changi museum today. A sad part of history.
