Monday 23rd May
Thought we might have to have a day at home today as the
fuel light was on in the car but the owners here did a quick ring around this
morning and found out where we could get fuel. We headed off and joined the
queue for fuel – about 1 hour in the queue but we were able to fill her up to
pussys bow and hit the road.
We travelled to another couple of little towns today. Our first
stop was Reguiny where we went to the supermarket. It’s always interesting to
see what they have that is different to home. Lots of choice in pate which made
Rob happy. We were able to buy prepared chicken curry for dinner so we decided
we’d get 90 second rice to accompany it – they don’t have it or at least they
didn’t where we were. Instead we bought sachets of rice that you ‘dived into
boiling water’ and cooked for 11 minutes. Stops it sticking together and stops
it sticking to the saucepan.
Lunchtime and we went to Jo et Carmen where they serve a
fixed menu lunch for 12euro – salad (like Caesar salad), chicken or black
sausage, cheese, dessert, bottle of red wine and bottle of water. All very good
and excellent value for money. Talking to the owner here tonight and he said
that workers get a government lunch allowance of 8.80 to buy lunch and this
helps the restaurant businesses. The workers also get 1 ½ hours for lunch. It
was interesting to see though that 95% of those in the restaurant were men.

We moved on to the town of Josselin where the canal from
Nantes to Brest passes. There were a few boats on the canal – a canal boat trip
could appeal in the future. There is a lovely chateau in Josselin which is
still inhabited by the Duke and Duchess. We just missed a tour and it was a
long wait till the next one and it was going to be in French so we decided to
give it a miss – I’m sure there will be more chateaus.

I am 5 ft 4 and even I would have to duck to get through this door. |

It was now time to head for home via a couple of little
villages and the quiet back roads. Tomorrow we will head to some of the more westerly
towns of Brittany.

Found this lovely little windmill off the beaten track. |
Love the windmill. I take it the gite has it's own kitchen. Now that you have diesel, onward ho!!!
ReplyDeleteThe gite is fantastic. It used to be a dairy and has been converted to 4 gites. It has a kitchen and living areas downstairs and 2 bedrooms and bathroom upstairs. Bonus is a washing machine. Second bedroom has 2 single beds so really suitable for couple or couple with kids. Owned by English couple and they get a lot of English staying here. We are very comfortable here. Have another gite booked towards the end of our time in France and will look for another couple along the way.
