Brrm, brrm - time for cars.

Wednesday 21st May

Forgot to mention 2 days ago, I am convinced there are some major eye problems here in France. When we were in Haguenau the other day it seemed like every other shop was an optometrist, and a lot of the doctors we saw were also eye doctors. Also there were four shoe shops in 100m in the main square - reminded me of Athens.

We've conquered the public transport here in Mulhouse. It certainly helps that the ticket machines have the option for instructions in English. I guess we don't have that in Melbourne because you have to get those mykis - and what other languages would we offer being as multi cultural as we are?

Visit to the automobile museum this morning. I'll include some photos though cars aren't really my thing. I did like the last ever 2CV off the production line - number 5,114,961.

Beautiful. Fully optioned including right hand rear view mirror,
fog lights and upholstered head rests.

You could take a little train ride around the museum,
rather than walk the aisles.

Tin-tin featured a lot in the exhibition, with a section devoted to Herge,
the writer of the cartoon.

One of the hood ornaments on display - by Lalique (where we were a few days ago).

One of the more recent peugeot Dakar cars.

After the car museum we headed in to the city of Mulhouse for lunch. First though we stopped in the tourist information centre to get a map of the historic part of Mulhouse. The lady in the office was very helpful and told us about the museum to printed fabric - and they had small packs of French fabric for sale (especially for patchworkers). A few pieces are coming home with me. Great lunch at a Chinese restaurant at cafe prices (not restaurant).

The museum of printed fabric was a bit of a disappointment. I was expecting to see fabrics over the years, but it was mostly just plaques of information and nothing really exciting. We were pretty tired by now so headed back to base to do the washing and buy something for dinner.

The gift shop at the fabric museum - didn't buy anything.

A few photos of fabrics from 19th century.
