Today we moved on from Dignes les Bains further north and towards Italy. We didn't do the hilltop villages - Rob said he'd rather drive the Cols (mountain passes). As we got further into the mountains we saw more snow on the mountain peaks. We stopped in the town of Barcelonette on the way and cruised their market before having lunch at a restaurant in the main square of the town.
Onwards and the mountains got higher with less vegetation and more snow. Certainly not enough for skiing at this time of the year but for us Aussies it's a lot of snow. As we got closer to the town of Briancon close to our gite, the traffic got heavier and there were a few desperate dans in their audis and bmws keen to pass at any cost.
Our gite - well we are in a tiny village about 2k from a little bigger village and about 15k from the big town. We are right in the heart of this tiny village with it's charming old houses and with stunning views of the surrounding mountains (if the cloud lifts). Rob says - you can certainly pick them. Love it!
Our gite. We are on the bottom floor and the owner lives above. |
What fabulous views from the terrace. |
Ready to help. |
The village of La Casset. |
Fortunately not at this time of year. |
Sunday 10th June
Rest day and grocery shopping in the nearby village. It has a small supermarket which was open Sunday morning so we were able to buy something for dinner. We found a frozen Thai prawn, vegetable and noodle dinner and it was very nice. Doing the shopping can be an outing on its own as it can take us quite a while to decipher all the labels and check out products we don't have at home.
Your gite looks charming. And fantastic mountain views!
ReplyDeleteWhen are you going white-water rafting???
Not until it stops raining - don't want to get wet.☺
