Turin in one day

Sunday 17th June

With only one day in Turin we decided the best option was to do the hop on hop off bus tour which usually gives a good overview of the city. Quite an amazing place to visit and some very old areas of the city contrasting with the new. One area the bus passed through was the Olympic village and sports areas. Apart from the slightly newer designs it reminded me of the village in Heidelberg (Melbourne). It was obviously a very big thing for Turin and put them on the map.
The main railway station. I just love the architecture.  It says Italy.

I haven't seen one of these before. Sort of like a segway, but no handle.

One of the beautiful shopping arcades.

We stopped here for coffee before our bus tour.

I think this was a tourist tram though I didn't see it anywhere on our travels
apart from stationary in the main piazza.

Kids will be kids!

Some of the housing at the Olympic village.

This sculpture is called the 'Spot and a Half'.

Dog of the day - sand sculpture.

Rob got to visit the museum of automobile history which he really enjoyed - especially the room with all the formula 1 cars. As we were getting off the bus I heard an Australian accent. A family of four - mum, dad and 7 year old boy and 10 year old girl, also from Melbourne. First Australians we have heard in a while.
A few photos from the car museum for the car buffs.
This is an early fiat but no idea about the other photos.

This is a 2cv.

After the bus tour we had a bit of a wander through some of the streets just back from the main piazzas. Amazing stuff to see. We've really only just scratched the surface. Next time we'll investigate the transport system before we go as there is a metro, and trams and I'm sure we could get to many more points of interest.
