Polish the porcelain

Friday 18th April - Good Friday

On the move again today headed for Limoges, the porcelain centre of France. As on a previous visit we found that Good Friday was nothing special - just another day of business as usual. Lots of trucks on the road, roadworks happening, the postman delivering mail, etc.

A painful drive for someone who is used to doing warp speed on a racetrack. We remembered from our last trip that they have lowered the speed limit on open country roads from 90 to 80. So it seemed to take forever to cover some of the distances.

Morning tea.

Spotted one deer along the way - pased through a lot of forested areas. We stopped along the way in a small village where they had a tiny market - a few fruit and veg stalls and deli items. We didn't buy anything, just enjoyed looking at the local produce. Time for coffee though at the patisserie (and of course a small morsel to eat).

Lunch along the road - menu du jour - charcuterie plate, beef stew (Rob had fish stew) and tiramisu. From here we took a bit of a detour to the village of Oradur sur Glane which was wiped out by the nazis in retaliation for their support of the resistance. The village has been left as it was as a memorial to those who died. You can see the poles for the tramway, burnt out cars, and destroyed houses. Very sombre!

Finally Limoges - the porcelain centre of France. We arrived with enough time to do a tour of the porcelain museum. Some magnificent works over the centuries.

So delicate.

I can see a quilt here.

Dog of the day.
