Sunny Spain? Not!!

 Wednesday 10th May

Well Spain is definitely letting us down in the weather department. Forgot to mention yesterday, the rain. It rained on and off all day so the umbrella purchased in France, and our raincoats, got plenty of use.  It didn't keep everyone indoors though - lots of tour groups around with their group leaders waving flags and umbrellas.

Today the weather was supposed to be better with regard to rain, but colder. Mostly the rain stayed away but it was colder.

Our first aim was the fine arts museum for our dose of kulcha. What a disappointment. The only artist name we recognised was Goya and they only had one of his works there, and not a well known one.

Hmm?

Not so sure about these. Im obviously just not into art.

And these?
So, scratch job number 1, and move on to 2 - the funicular to the top of one of the hills to look over the city. This was well worth the visit (though at the top the wind blew and it was freezing).

Odette enjoyed the view. The wind ruffled her feathers.

The Guggenheim from above.

Going back down the funicular.

Back down to 'ground' and we were searching for a place for lunch. Another good find with 2 course lunch including wine and coffee for 14 € each. We thought it was a glass of wine included - no it was a bottle. Rob did his best but we had to leave some.

Here's one for our friend Bob.
Translates as tables exclusively for diners between 1 and 4.

Slow cooked pork cheeks with red wine jus.

Your dog of the day - served in a glass.

Scrambled eggs with mushrooms.

The final plan for the day was a cruise on the canal. We arrived at the boat early and just hung around and waited. Cruise time came and 5 minutes later a horde of school kids arrived. They loaded the kids on the boat, no words to any of us waiting at the gate, and the boat left. There was a second boat there and we hung around for a while waiting for it to load, but there was no activity. In the end we gave up assuming the boat we were hoping to catch was booked out with the group of kids, and the next cruise wasn't for another hour. Communication! Don't you love it!?!

What else? Give a border collie a ball and .....

City hall - as close as we got to our boat tour.

By now we were very cold so decided to head for home. If luck was with us we figured we had just enough time to catch the 4.40 bus. We've got this public transport system sorted now - tram to bus station, get platform pass for bus, get on the bus and pay the driver, sit back and enjoy the ride.
