What happened to May?

Sunday 20th May

I don't know just how much work is getting done in France this month. Today and tomorrow are public holidays again - that makes 5 this month.

We decided to have a quiet day and just visit the town of Domme only 3k away. This is another of the listed most beautiful towns in France and indeed it was beautiful. Lots of people there possibly just because it was the weekend, but maybe more because it is a long weekend. This town (like many others) is perched right on top of a hill. Domme was built in the 12th century with defensive walls all round. There are 4 or 5 entry gates to the town and from the way we came there was a lot of parking outside the town (and at the bottom of the hill). Fortunately we had a map and knew there was parking inside the walls.

There were some lovely old buildings and houses, and of course the church, but the views from the ramparts were the highlight. Just amazing! We were pretty sure we could see our place from the hill.

Just look at the view. The Dordogne river below.
Me taking a photo of Rob taking a photo of the view.
Lots of pushbikes out on the roads
- can be a real challenge to get past them.

Incognito!

If you can get this photo big enough
you might be able to see a chateau or two on the cliffs
in the middle of the photo.

The town hall - love the roof lines.
Not a clear photo, but note where we parked
- right under Odette's friends.
Here they are.
We did a tour through the grotte (caves), apparently found by 2 boys back in the 1920s. No photos allowed - except for the french dude bringing up the rear!!

We had a lovely relaxed lunch - coq au vin. French food!

Monday 21st May

A day at home after getting washing done and a trip to the supermarket and bakery this morning. Everything was closing at lunchtime because it's another public holiday. We tried to get some more strawberries at the farm shop but they were sold out - more tomorrow. They were so sweet and the nicest I've had in a long time.

Spent time this afternoon trying to plan our next couple of weeks heading across to Italy.

As I sit here writing this the clouds have come over and it is thundering (and the dog is going nuts).

  1. Sometimes you need a quiet day to just sit and chill out, especially with a bottle of wine.
