Finally - time for a tasting

Saturday 10th June

Woke this morning to a beautiful day. Moving on today and decided on a winery visit and a medieval village on the way.

First stop, the winery of Arnaud de Villeneuve where we (Rob) tasted a lot, and bought a few. We have to limit our purchases as we need to drink it all before we fly to Greece. (Not a problem I hear you all saying.) Best thing was we found a wine I liked. If we'd done this tasting earlier in our trip we could have bought a few wine casks to last the distance - but then you miss out on all the different varieties.

Next was the village of Lagrasse. We had Dora take us there and blow me down if she didn't pick the same sh***y roads as 2 days ago. Surely Dora there was a better route you could have chosen. Funny thing was we were passed by a motorbike somewhere, and he went one way, and us another, and we met up again along the road as he came in from a different direction. This happened twice and another time with a car. There are seemingly hundreds of bitumen roads out there linking the tiniest of villages.

Lagrasse was a lovely little village where we just wandered around the old medieval streets and then had lunch.

Beautiful colours.

Street in Lagrasse.

Lovely old church - around 1400s.

Have a look at the support beams in this walkway.

The village square.

Arrived at our accommodation in Roujan where we had to meet the owner in the car park and then walk uphill in to the village, lugging bags and suitcases. We are staying in the medieval part of town and our 'house' was originally built in 1633. Thankfully it now has more modern facilities than 1633.

Our house.

Street near our house - some streets are so narrow you can only walk up them.

Streets of Roujan.

Not quite the dog of the day photo,
but even the smallest villages often sport a toilettage for dogs.

Sunday 11th June

Today we just had a short outing to the nearby town of Pezenas. It, too, has a small pedestrian only, medieval centre. Being a Sunday though nothing much was open - except the church where everyone was rolling up for mass.

Pezenas.

Pezenas streets.

Pretty elaborate weather vane.

We did find a food van selling oysters (we are not too far from the sea here), and we were also able to buy cheese and quiches for lunch.

Cheese.....

....and dessert.

And a cat of the day - Bengal called Valentina.
Met her in the patisserie, out on the lead for a walk.

This afternoon was just a rest time - with the LeMans 24 hr race on the TV.

Rob has just now slurped his way through a dozen oysters, and now for cheese and bikkies.
